Awakening includes both the body and mind. Join us as we explore the body’s natural intelligence to relax habitual (and often stressful or painful) patterns into greater ease and freedom, together with the mind’s natural capacity for awakened awareness.
This one-day retreat combines accessible yet profound Natural Meditation practices adapted from Tibetan Buddhism with sessions of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons, the brilliant sensory-motor approach to gently and wisely re-educating the neuro-muscular system. Alternating meditation, Feldenkrais lessons and discussion will allow the techniques to complement and empower each other and to enhance the mind-body connection and well-being.
Many new and long-time meditators discover that Feldenkrais practices can help them feel greater physical ease and less pain, both in meditation and in everyday activities, by freeing up habitual patterns embedded in the neuromuscular system. This can also help incorporate the body’s natural intelligence into the process of spiritual awakening and more fully embodied presence. We can then join in the dance of existence with more freedom and ease.
Join us as we awaken the innate potential of both body and mind to work together in a joyful and liberating way. We welcome both beginning and experienced students of meditation or the Feldenkrais Method®. Relaxed & Awake: A Meditation Workshop with Feldenkrais Method® Movement

By changing our habits of movement we relax and awaken the body; by changing our habits of thinking we awaken and relax the mind. We can then join in the dance of existence with more freedom and ease.
This workshop combines the traditional practice of Buddhist mindfulness meditation with sessions of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® lessons. Feldenkrais is the brilliant sensory-motor approach to re-educating the nervous system and developing self-awareness. Periods of meditation will alternate with guided Feldenkrais movement lessons, allowing the techniques to support each other and create a sense of mind-body connection, vitality and well-being.
During the sessions we will provide ample time for discussion and interviews, as well as give attention to individual challenges. The workshop is appropriate for both experienced and beginning students of either mindfulness meditation or The Feldenkrais Method®.
Some of the work will be done on the floor, so please bring a yoga mat and blanket to use if you wish. The workshop is appropriate for both experienced and beginning students of either meditation or the Feldenkrais Method.
NOTE: This workshop may not be suitable for people with acute physical injuries or conditions. If you have any questions about whether to participate in the workshop, please consult your physician or the Spirit Rock teachers prior to attending.
Young Adults (18-26) and Seniors (65+ with limited and fixed income) are invited to attend this day for $25.
Teachings are appropriate for individuals as well as health care professionals. Continuing Education (CE) credit available.
